The International Association of Commercial Collectors presents its 2019 IACC Convention Jan. 16 – 18 at the JW Marriott Marquis in Miami, Fla. The event will be attended by commercial collection agency executives, collection attorneys and vendors for two full days (over three calendar days) of peer-to-peer networking and timely sessions presented by industry leaders.
This year’s convention takes place in downtown Miami within close proximity of the city’s epicenter, skyline, bay views, and hidden gems awaiting exploration. Attendees are encouraged to shop, dine and soak up the local atmosphere.
The International Association of Commercial Collectors, Inc. (IACC) enhances the growth of its members by delivering education and professional resources in a collaborative environment. IACC represents commercial collectors by:
- Providing industry-related resources and educational programs.
- Promoting professional and ethical conduct among members and between members and their clients.
- Encouraging mutual support among members.
- Increasing awareness of the benefits of using an IACC member to collect commercial accounts.

Commercial collectors begin the convention on a celebratory note at an Opening Reception & Network with Exhibitors followed by an Awards Program/President’s Opening Celebration with IACC President Bill J. Mann, and the Hospitality Suite.
These festivities are followed by a full day of professional programming on day two.
Thursday, January 17
After the morning Welcome & IACC Annual Business Meeting, the first of several sessions provides insight to a handful of critical topics.
“HR Challenges in the #MeToo Era” looks at changing the way people interact both socially and professionally. “Harassment is on the forefront of the social media movement making mainstream media headlines,” stated presenters Wanda Borges Esq. and D. Porpoise Evans. “What does this mean for your company? How should you be responding with training, policies and procedures? This session will explore the business response to this social movement.”
Next, Dave Wannstedt, former NFL head coach and current NFL and college football analyst for FOX Sports, shares his insights on winning in life and business during the keynote “Building and Maintaining a Winning Team or Business.”
After lunch, commercial collectors will receive a General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) update called “Status Report from Europe and Impact on U.S. Agencies.” This session by presenters Erwin Falkner, Bill Mann and Robert Tharnish will review new GDPR compliance developments and steps needed for compliance.
Commercial collectors will then hear a briefing from ACA International called “State of the Industry: Regulatory Update – CFPB, TCPA and More.” Presented by ACA CEO Mark Neeb, this session updates IACC members on what the ACA is doing to advance the interests of its members. The focus is on advocacy efforts on the federal and state levels as well as current areas of concern.
“Who Am I … and Why Do I Need You?” follows with information about the changing climate of credit granting and collecting. Presenters Wanda Borges Esq. and Jay Snyder say, “The speed of business today, coupled with the transformation and evolution of credit granting (and collecting), requires business partners and expertise to solve complex problems quickly and dynamically.” Commercial collectors will learn how to become valuable partners and resources in an ever-changing market place.
The second day ends on a festive note at the Blue Martini. Commercial collectors will enjoy dining, drinks and live music at the “hottest, most upscale night club in Miami.”
Friday, January 18
The third and final day begins with Continental Breakfast & Networking, followed by two powerful sessions.
Presented by John Chotkowski, Christopher Pona and Timothy Wan Esq., “Social Media in the Collection World – Marketing, Skiptracing, Collecting and Beyond” reviews the value of social media in collections, both as an “investigative tool and a medium through which collection activity may take place.” The session covers the value of social media as a marketing tool, how social media fits in a modern marketing and sales strategy, and the pitfalls of social media in both collection and marketing.
“Hot Topics in the Commercial Collection Industry,” an annual highlight of the IACC Convention, provides an “opportunity to share, learn and debate with peers about industry challenges, best practices and the most ingenious ideas that are revolutionizing commercial collections.”
